Amy's passion for yoga began 6 years ago after attending a yoga class at a local studio and has been growing ever since. Her love for yoga took her across the country in an effort to increase her knowledge and understanding of the various forms of yoga. Having been blessed with two beautiful children, Amy never ceased her practice of yoga throughout each of her pregnancies. She attributes her health as a mother and birth of her healthy children to her practice of yoga and an overall ‘yoga lifestyle.’ Amy began practicing Ashtanga at a local gym in May 2008 and fell in love with the traditional yoga. She began her 200 hour Ashtanga teacher training with Beryl Bender Birch the following fall. As a student of Beryl's she experienced the practice of transforming yoga into all aspects of daily life, by taking your practice off your mat. Amy shared this similar desire with another yoga enthusiast, Brittney Crosby. A desire to bring awareness of the eight fold path of Ashtanga to others in the community. In the spring of 2009, from that collaboration, 8 Limbs was born. Currently, Amy is continuing her studies by attending teacher training's led by David Swenson starting in the fall of 2009. She believes that in order to be an effective teacher, she must always remain a student herself. When not in the studio you will find Amy around St Augustine being a blissful mother to her beautiful children, John Douglas (4) and Reece (2 1/2).
Brittney's roots are deep in this little town... a 10th generation St. Augustine native. As a young child and through to the preteen years gymnastics was her thing. As her body matured, it proved to be too much physically and she began swimming. Always giving thanks to gymnastics for an early mind/body connection and swimming for breath awareness. It would be a few years later before these key ingredients came to light again... She started playing tennis at 16 and took her first yoga class at 17. She went on to play college tennis for Broward Community College where they were ranked #1 in the State and Nation both years. It consumed her life and ransacked her body. Between tennis and car accident injuries her body was really getting beat up, her knees, shoulders, wrist, and neck were always irritated. Each time she ached she always went back to yoga and always felt better. The tug of war between yoga and tennis may never end, but every atom of her is YOGA. With inspiration from many precious light beings and divine intervention her spiritual path opened and 8 Limbs was born. She took her first Ashtanga class in 2006, it happened to be "MYSORE" style... the teachers were very kind and led her through lovingly. She has been hooked ever since. This practice of asanas differed from her previous 'yoga' experience (there was way more to the 90 min on the mat) it encompassed 7 other beautiful aspects. In 2008 this 8 limbed path led her to India, the taproot of yoga. She lived in an ashram in Northern India studying asanas, Indian Culture & Yoga Philosophy, practicing pranayama, meditation, chanting in egg shaped domes, kirtans on the banks of the Ganges river, singing along with the tablas, harmoniums, & sitars, and most of all connected with amazing souls. She came home feeling refreshed knowing good things were happening. Within months she and Amy reconnected and began practicing ashtanga together....then on September 8th 2009... 8 Limbs Yoga Opened it's doors in this quaint little town. As always enjoying the present and excited about what's evolving. "Practice and all is coming" - KPJ
Suzy’s love of yoga began as a young girl growing up in Miami in the 70’s. Her mother practiced in the home and often brought Suzy with her when attending a local studio class. As a mother of two young children, Suzy once again discovered yoga at the local gym. This time, however, it was power yoga. In 2007, after several years of practicing a couple of times a week with various instructors, Suzy began her 200-hour Ashtanga teacher training with Beryl Bender Birch (www.power-yoga.com). This is also when she started her daily home practice and began her understanding of the transformative effects of daily practice in all aspects of your life. Suzy lives in St. Augustine with her husband, Steve and her two children, Marley and Finley. She teaches many yoga classes a week and gets great joy sharing her passion for Ashtanga yoga with the community.
Kristen has a degree in Communication and International Affairs is from the University of Nebraska. After working in sales and marketing, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery. Recalling the peace and tranquility of the yoga she learned as a child, Kristen studied at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lennox, MA, and received her yoga teaching certification. In addition to teaching yoga—including asana and pranayama—Kristen discovered how movement and dance can release the body’s energy. Inspired by this energy, she earned her Global Dance Certification in Sedona, AZ. In Kristen’s interview for the June 2004 issue of The Lark Letter, she said, “Yoga has been a lifelong journey.” The benefits of yoga motivated Kristen to help children. She trained at the Next Generation Yoga Studio in New York City. When working with special needs children in the Chicago area, Kristen saw how yoga dramatically increased a child’s self-esteem. She taught children ages three to 10, and trained parents to incorporate yoga into their lives. She also developed a self-esteem program for pre-teens and teens. Kristen acquired her Prenatal and Post Natal certification at Kripalu so she could guide expecting parents through a happy, healthy pregnancy. She continued parent and child yoga classes after the baby’s birth. After obtaining her certification for Ayurvedic Thai Yoga Bodywork, Kristen was gratified to see how Thai Yoga Bodywork could hasten healing as she worked with minor league baseball players, football players, and equestrians. Kristen has owned and managed her own yoga businesses in the Midwest and South, where she taught yoga and spin classes, both privately and in groups, and developed workshops.
